Roman coins were first introduced late in the 4th century BCE in Italy; then were minted for another eight centuries across the empire. Denominations and values more or less constantly changed. However, the sestertii and denarii would continue and come to rank amongst the most famous coins throughout history. Coins would also carry images of the emperors and monuments, for some Romans this would be the closest they would get to see them.
